By now you all know I love a good tan; being originally from a place where being tanned is pretty much your natural skin colour to living in London, where I never been so pale is not easy on the eye, so I was glad BeautyLab London sent me some help in the shape of their Skin Tanning Lotion.
The packaging is nice and sturdy, with a smooth pump. The lotion is like a thick milky moisturiser and spreads well, there is no smell to it. Skin feels moisturised.
Before I go on, I’d like to point out the huge plus on this product: it is DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) free, so suitable to people who are allergic to it or have sensitive skin. For that reason, it is less drying on the skin and to make it even better, it counts with organic extracts, peptides and skinfirming & anti-ageing active ingredients!
I applied and left overnight, to wake up to a soft glow. This tan is not too dark and does not streak; I can see I am more golden, slightly darker, but nothing too harsh.
I could smell it just a tiny bit when I woke up, but one shower is enough to get rid of it. I applied again the next evening to build up the tan – this one is perfect for it.

I will need to try this tanning product out! I use St Tropez and I swear by it but sometimes the smell can get to me. I use an almond scent exfoliating wash and moisturizer but sometime I can still smell the fake tan! 🙂

Hi Dani! Thank you for posting this review. I’m looking for DHA-free self-tanners but there are very few on the market and very few people post reviews on them. My question is does this come off easily in the shower/in water? I suffer from vitiligo so I can’t tan plus I’m allergic to DHA and would like to be able to go for a swim etc. without worrying about how it may look when I come out of the water. If you have any good advice let me know!

Hi Kit,
No, it doesn’t come off. The product is a white lotion, so has no colour immediately. It develops overnight (or the course of a few hours) and I found the tan itself was quite subtle, more like a golden glow, but you can re-apply to build up if you want something a bit darker! It will fade overtime, with no transfer I noticed, so maybe top up every 3-4 days.

I have tried it and it’s a decent product, but I am not allergic to it. Maybe worth getting in touch with them before buying to be 100% sure for you case?

Hi Dee, I did and had no allergic reaction 🙂 Since I posted that comment I’ve tried two other DHA-free products: Hylamide Glow Booster and Hand Chemistry Glow Oil. Like all DHA-free products, it takes a while to build the color and it’s not as intense as DHA, but I’ve been happy with all three of these products 🙂

Sorry Kit that was my old message i wanted to ask what one of the three you tried you prefered and what was best application/colour/wear etc x

Hi Dee. Both Hylamide Glow Booster and Hand Chemistry Glow oil are made by the same company, Deciem, so I would say that color and wear is the same. The color is subtle but buildable and looks best on people with pink/yellow undertones. The glow oil is a dry oil so it can feel a little sticky until it dries. The glow booster is kind of a serum and dries super quick. My favorite used to be the glow booster because it applies so easily and it’s hard to mess it up, but they changed their formulation and I’m not a big fan of the smell now. So now I have to mix it with a pleasant smelling lotion. And no, countless applications and still no bad reactions 🙂
