Nails of the week – silver and blue holographic gradient

Oh yeah, I have an obsession with gradients too… and this time, I used three linear holos to create this lovely gradient effect on my nails, in silver, blue and dark grey.

I kind of regret having added the dark grey; it would have been just as nice in silver and blue,plus the darker colour was less pigmented than the others, so at one point I really thought it wouldn’t work…

Work it did, and I was pleased with the result. This time, I applied only one coat of the all white coat, and it worked fine – less time waiting to sponge and less layers of nail polish. I used a silver holo from ColorClub and blue (Apolo) and dark grey (Zeus) holos from Specialittá Hits “No Olimpo” range, applying the sponging technique.

Application, as mentioned, was a bit sketchy, but turned out ok in the end. The ColorClub holo takes aaages to dry. Durability, however, was fantastic: 14 days – yes you read it right – 14 DAYS with absolutely no chips (I skipped a week of doing my nails, partly for being lazy, partly because it looked so good I felt bad removing it!)

Nails of the week- purple with multicoloured foil

Yes, I have been totally MIA. I have the best excuse for it though; I was on holidays!!! Yay! Well, not so much yay as I am back. Boyfriend and I spend 11 amazing days in the US – New York, Chicago, northern Michigan, plus a quick dash over the border to Canada, to Toronto and Niagara Falls.

So I had to wisely choose holiday nails, which would look pretty on my holiday snaps and to last me a week until I had to change it for the wedding I attended. I knew I was going to wear red for the nuptials, as I was wearing the prettiest yellow dress, so decided to go purple before that.

I bought an unbelievably bargainous ColorClub set from TKMaxx, I mean, £7.99 for six polishes and a topcoat. Amazing. I bought the Alter Ego”Keep it under cover” set, with lovely berry shades.

I recently discovered the foils sheets; so ordered five varieties from eBay, plus glue; and I had been looking forward to using it, as the effects I saw were very pretty!

My choice was the ColorClub Secret Agent as a base and after it dried I applied the glue with irregular strokes, let it dry until I couldn’t see it anymore and pressed the foil sheet rainbow Swirl, a pretty silver base with blue, green, pink, lilac and yellow swirls, on to the nail. The colour transfered nicely, and it was pretty easy to do; I applied a bit more glue where I thought there were gaps or I hadn’t applied enough first time around and repeated the process. I then applied a topcoat.

The result was fantastic. I was delighted with it. Pretty, very pretty and quite different.

Now, the durability wasn’t the best. Whereas the polish was great, after a few days the foils started to rub off, especially on my index finger… bits of it were coming off, and even though it wasn’t a massive problem, as the base colour was still going strong, it lost a bit of its appeal.

Still, I am certainly going to do it again (actually, I have already, as I had a plain red manicure for the wedding, and removed it a couple days ago to replace with a new foil effect one!).

Nails of the week – holographic

About a month ago, I was quite upset to find out (two years too late!) I completely missed Gosh’s holographic nail polish, so I went on a quest to source it. After seeing it going on eBay for quite a lot of money (some in excess of £20 with p&p), I decided to look for an alternative.

I found Color Club Worth the Risque, which seemed very lovely and with good reviews, and that’s what I am wearing this week. This polish is a silver holographic, with amazing rainbow shine, and plenty of sparkle.

Having never used a holo nail polish before, only a topcoat; I was very surprised at the coverage. This varnish is quite thick, so just one coat would definitely be ok, but I opted for two.

The colour is stunning and solid; a pretty muted silver indoors (sometimes you can see the rainbow effect, but not always), medium to fine grain glitter but smooth, however, the beauty of this polish lays when it catches the light, it is truly mesmerising, with amazing depth. It seems to be chip resistant, but it has two minor cons: it seems to scratch quite easily, and it hasn’t got a fast drying time, making it quite easy for you to mess up after application.

Apart from that, I am very pleased with it. It doesn’t seem to be as pretty as some pictures of the Gosh one I have seen around the internet, but I really like it! I was a bit worried as I tend not to wear light shades on my nails, but this is rather beautiful!
