Makeup for the new season

gosh-aw16 - 1Mentioned many times before, but always worth reiterating: every season, GOSH launches something that stays it me until the next season. Fact.

This time is no different. Over dinner at the beautiful Sea Containers at one of my favourite London hotels, the Mondrian, GOSH unveiled their AW16 collection and they have a fabulous lot, which is already available to buy!

The new collection focuses on the Nordic/Danish raw beauty of nature. Key ingredients include bladderwrack seaweed, a brown algae that grows along the Danish coast and boast healing and regenerative properties.

Not long ago, I talked about the makeup/skincare hybrid trend, which is growing in the beauty industry; GOSH AW16 really invests heavily on this.

gosh-aw16 - 6I’ll start with my favourite product in the collection, the Overnight Primer Oil Essence. It won my heart just for being an oil. However, it is an addition to the massive selection of primers that GOSH offers.

It is meant to prime your skin overnight, by regenerating it to receive makeup in the morning. This oil is packed with antioxidants, fatty acids and caring oils, including French lavender, blackcurrant seed, argan and jojoba oils.

Great for using alone or combined with our your favourite moisturiser, it’s light and applies so well, being absorbed by the skin in seconds.

In the morning, skin is plump and radiant; repeated use has anti-ageing properties and help strengthen the skin. And the price is fantastic: only £14.99 for 30ml.

gosh-aw16 - 8Still on the makeup/skincare territory, comes the Foundation Plus+. With a dewy coverage, this foundation and concealer in one also provide nourishment from liquid sea minerals, hyaluronic acid and bladderwrack seaweed.

The coverage is excellent, but the result is very light and natural; it blends really well. Durability wise, it will take you through a work day, and it contains SPF 15 for extra protection.

It comes in five shades and costs£9.99 for 30ml.

gosh-aw16 - 9Also for the face, there is the super practical Contour’n Strobe Kit. A massive disc with a pretty highlighter, a soft blusher, a pretty bronzer and a great contour shade, for only 12.99.

Comes in two colours and it has everything for a sculpted look. The pigmentation is great, the consistency too; blending is easy-peasy.

gosh-aw16 - 5Moving on from skin, I have to talk about the Giant Pro Liner. This chubby eyeliner might seem impractical, but it’s a blessing for thicker lines – the way I like mine. The tip is just thin enough o produce a decent flick.

Colour wise is super black and lasts very well – no smudging or melting.

gosh-aw16 - 4 (1)More on eyes, the Lash Sculpting Fibre Mascara contains fibres in its formula that attach to the lashes, offering super volume and length.

The brush is shaped to aid that by lifting, curling and lengthening the lashes. The formula is creamy, non-drying and does not smudge.

It sells for £9.99 and also contains their star ingredient bladderwrack seaweed.

gosh-aw16 - 3What about brows? Covered! Also with fibres, the Brow sculpting Fibre Gel is a all-in-one brow product, offering colour, filling, setting and boosting.

The little brush is great to shape and the final result is natural and full. Comes in two shades and costs £6.49.

gosh-aw16 - 2Of course, their superb Velvet Touch lipstick range gets some autumnal matt additions: Cinnamon, Cranberry, Grape and Purple.

All very wearable and I cannot say enough how much I love the Velvet Touch range, a superb value at £6.99. I’m not stranger to this range; you can read my full review here; they are always with me!

Always worth mentioning that, apart from the lipsticks (which contain beeswax), all the products are vegan, and most do not contain perfumes or parabens.

You can get the whole new collection, and much more from GOSH at Superdrug, online and in selected stores.

Brows, stay put!

browcote-review - 1My brow obsession is never ending. Being one of the lucky ones to get their brows back after the over plucking disaster of the 90s, I now cultivate them in their natural fullness and just love it.

That means I do fill them, to make them stronger but unfortunately that’s not enough: my brow hairs tend to grow downwards, meaning my carefully groomed arch sags a bit as the day goes by.

But fear the sagging arch no longer! Browcote is here to help.

browcote-review - 2From the folks that blessed us with the amazing Lipcote (which I cannot live without), Browcote does to our brows the same Lipcote does to our lips: fix it in place. Not just the colour, but also the hairs. Sealed. All day long.

Very compact with a rather bushy soft brush, the clear gel makes sure brows are on point all day.

Of course, I had no doubt in my mind that whoever made Lipcote would not disappoint. And disappoint they did not!

Browcote eyebrow sealer is brand new, costs only £6.99 and can be purchased from major retailers nationwide.

Pluck them good!

the-vintage-cosmetic-company-rose-gold-slanted-tweezers-review - 1As a blogger, I felt as a failure for not being a huge fan of all things rose gold. Let’s just say that in the recent months it grew on me, and I blame my Coach watch for that.

No surprise I was ecstatic to meet with the lovely guys from The Vintage Cosmetic Company for the launch of a new addition to their pretty rose gold tools range: the slanted tweezers.

the-vintage-cosmetic-company-rose-gold-slanted-tweezers-review - 3I’m a big plucker as I cannot stand hair, so this baby was a welcome addition.

Obviously they look pretty, with the engraved brand and slightly brushed stainless steel, but don’t be fooled by the shiny pink: these tweezers are very sturdy, easy to hold and with a fab grip on hair, removing from the root and not breaking them.

the-vintage-cosmetic-company-rose-gold-slanted-tweezers-review - 4For perfect plucking, always do it in the direction of hair, and if you do after showering, when pores are dilated, it is easier to remove.

The slant size is great for general plucking, and if you flip to use the high side, you get great precision.

the-vintage-cosmetic-company-rose-gold-slanted-tweezers-review - 2They are also great to apply eyelashes (The Vintage Cosmetic Company has some fab ones and I’m a fan) and the round tip is also handy to gently press them in place.

The tweezers were part of last month’s Pink Parcel‘s box of treats. Pretty and useful – just my kind of thing.

You can get The Vintage Cosmetic Company Slanted Tweezers from their website and retailers nationwide, such as Boots, and they costs £8.

Brows, brows, brows, Gimme Brow

benefit-gimme-brow-review - 1Since the first time I had my eyebrows filled, I never looked back. It did feel a bit weird at the time, but soon, weird became not having them filled.

I am trying new products all the time, and found a little gem in Benefit’s Gimme Brow Gel. That’s because it is so easy to apply, last a long time and really, the effect is just great.

Gimme Brow is a gel with buildable micro-fibre particles that stick to your own eyebrow hair and skin, filling it up and making it look fuller, and thicker.

Because it is a gel, it also keeps the brow in place, shaping them too.

benefit-gimme-brow-review - 2The tiny little tapered brush spreads the gel beautifully on the brows and its precision tip does a great job of shaping them; creating a fab lift and defined arch is easy-peasy.

It is water resistant and I can vouch for the panels findings of brows looking fuller and natural – and that’s the main thing for me: they are full, thick, but very natural, not painted on.

Here you can see my right eyebrow, with Gimme Brow and my sad left one, with nothing!

Plus, it is soooo easy to apply, easier than any other beloved brow product I ever used, so perfect for every day use. It can also be used on top of a filler (powder or pencil) for extra sharp effect.

The Benefit Gimme Brow costs £18.50, is available in two shades (Light/Medium and Medium/Dark, which I am using) and can be bought from House of Fraser.

Review: B.Defined Eyebrow Kit

b. defined eyebrow kit

No secret that since I first filled my eyebrows, I realised I would never fail to do so (after the initial shock of seeing them filled, that is).

I have a few star products that have helped me keep them in check, but since discovering the B. Makeup B. Defined Eyebrow Kit, I haven’t looked back.

Review: LashPerfect Lash Bar Hi Brow treatment

It is no secret that I love a well groomed pair of eyebrows and cannot live without plucking and filling mine. After trying the LashPerfect Hi Brow filling powder and wax pencil and attending their eyebrow event where they launched their brow extensions Brow Perfect, I was delighted to actually try their full eyebrow treatment called Hi Brow.

Their salon, just by Carnaby Street in London, is lovely. I went in 24 hours before my appointment for a patch test (this is very important, as they won’t tint your brows without it!). They were also very lovely changing the date of my treatment when I forgot to pop in for a patch test. Do-oooh!!!

Upon arrival, the lovely Liga asked me to fill out a form (I had filled one for the patch test already) and took me down to the treatment area. Then she cleansed my eyebrows, gave me a mirror and asked me what I didn’t like about my eyebrows.

I do like them, so I mentioned I would like to keep them quite thick as they are, get more definition, a general tidy and a bit more of an arch.

First, she measured my brow in three points: inner corner, highest point and end, marking the spots. She asked what shade I’d be more comfortable with for the tint – I said not too dark! She applied the wax pencil around my brows and then the tint, removing the excess with a cotton bud and already defining the shape.

The tint is ON

After a few minutes, she cleaned the dye and started the shaping process, first by waxing. They use an amazing wax which is has a low melting point so it is not too hot – it is in fact very pleasantly lukewarm, and feels very soft and gentle on the skin. Just what you need for your face! She removed hair from the top, bottom and middle of brows!

Shaping already started on left brow!

She also used tweezers to fine tune the shape and threading to remove the fluff towards the hair line – a multi-technique operation going on!

She then gave me back the mirror and wow – they looked amazing. But she wasn’t done. Oooh no! There was filling to be done. She filled with the lovely Hi Brow powder (reviewed here), teaching me how to do it best. That is no harsh lines at the top, starting from the middle bottom, make a defined line and blend upwards so you can still see skin and it is not too dark! Now I know! Then she applied the highlighter on the brow bone.

After shaping

Finally – and I found this a lovely touch – she concealed the redness (although I didn’t even go too red, slightly pink, more like!) so I could return to the office, as I had the treatment, which lasts about 30 minutes inclusive of consultation, on my lunch break!

I had never had my eyebrows tinted before and I really liked the effect. It lasts for about a month, Liga told me. Overall, the service was very friendly, extremely professional and I felt very confident in totally trusting my brows (such an important feature of my face!) to them.

More than a week on, the tint has faded a bit, but the shape is still looking fantastic and the eyebrows are still looking very sharp!

And voilá – beautifully tinted, shaped and filled eyebrows!

You can book the Hi Brow treatment, a great lunchtime treat, by calling the LashBar (35 Marshall Street, London W1F 7EX – behind Carnaby Street) on 020 7434 4554. It costs £35.

They offer a great range of lashes and brows treatments. All info, including prices, can be found on the LashBar website and you can also follow them on Twitter @LashBar@LashPerfect@Hi_Brow and@BrowPerfect_ for news and promotions.
