Boy, do I love the smell of leather… nothing quite like a brand new handbag, made with lovely soft leather! No wonder I was ecstatic to receive the Jocasi London’s Kepis bag in black leather.
This bag has a rectangular shape and ruches at the top as you pull the handles to make it tighter. It has a magnetic clasp and is lined, with a zipped pocket as well as two smaller compartments on the side.
The bag is very well made and finished; all stitching is really sturdy, finishes are smooth. The leather quality is very good.
I really like the size of this one – not huge to carry around but large enough for a big purse, an iPad mini, small makeup bag, phone and other small essentials.
It looks great in the crook of your elbow or over the shoulder, when tightened it’s enough to go round. I’ve made it my work bag! If I have to point out a con is probably opening the bag and looking for stuff when you are in a hurry – if ruched, the opening is small and it can be quite awkward, but nothing too irritating, to be honest.
Much worth noting is the company ethos. The company owner, Simon Swinnerton started the company 11 years ago in London, with the creation of a reinvented, updated version of a bag that has been used for generations in Bali – the Kepis, which became the fastest selling bag in Topshop’s history!
After expanding and going off their original proposition a little, Jocasi decided to re-launch going back to basics and the core principles of the company.
Basically, all their bags are made by artisans in Bali, in fair work conditions and with responsibly, sustainably sourced materials. They are also reasonably priced: the Kepis sells for £95 and is available in four colours: black, brown, tan and burgundy.
All leather bags range in price from £95 to £115. They also have an amazing python collection (drool) with bags from £225 and wallets from £125. All the skin is from sustainably farmed python and all their stock is CITES licensed.
You can check some videos of the action at their Bali workshop below.
You can can buy the gorgeous Jocasi London bags on their website and some boutiques. At the moment, there is a fantastic SALE going on, and the Kepis bag is only £65!!!Amazing!
Very soon, I hear a really exciting collection is coming along, so watch that space!
