After the Olympics opening ceremony last night, the essie Rio Collection makes even more sense: and explosion of colour and shine to get you well into the mood of the wonderful city.
The collection is fun, with bold but wearable shades.
Not only that: apart from essie’s six boldest shades, the collection counts with essie’s 1000th VIP shade: a Brazilian charged bright metallic yellow called aim to misbehave. Quite a scandalous colour, it looks so hot on the nail.
The vibrant tangerine coral, sunday funday also has a lovely shimmer; aruba blue is a frosty metallic sapphire; bahama mama a deep, creamy and warm plum; naughty nautical a gorgeous shimmery blue-green, pure pearlfection, a delicate topcoat the create instant iridescence and jazzy jubilant, another topcoat with hexagonal blue and pink glitter in various sizes, that looks like carnival confetti!
And because it has green, yellow, blue and white, it matches the country’s flag! Being Brazilian myself, I approve!
You can get essie nail polish from major retailers nationwide.
Each bottle costs £7.99 and it goes without saying the all have the superior essie quality: easy to apply (the brush is lush!), fabulous finish, quick drying, great pigmentation and durability!

I am a huge fan of colour and my nails are usually the place this love manifest itself fully.
When it comes to nail colours, there are no limits.
Essie, a nail polish brand I’ve known and loved for a while, is saying goodbye to grey – and so am I by picking their gorgeous new Spring 2016 bright coral Sunshine State of Mind nail polish to adorn my nails.
This summer, essie has partnered up with photographer Rankin to celebrate one of my favourite things: beautifully painted nails.
The “Colour Portrait Studio”, which will open for on day only on the 17th May at a secret London location, will bring colours to life.
What’s more, 10 lucky women will have their picture taken by superstar Rankin himself, making it a lifetime experience.
To be in with a chance, just enter the competition by the 28 April – it’s easy:
Needless to say, I love essie polishes; they apply extremely well, the brush is a dream with its rounded end, it has an excellent colour pay off and its durability is off the charts.
Everything you need for gorgeous nails!
The Spring 2016 collection has six new shades inspired by chic Palm Springs resorts. I have Sunshine State Of Mind, the brightest of corals, Poolside Service, a gorgeous cerulean blue and High Class Affair, a pretty blush nude.
There is also Lounge Lover, a pink peach, Off Tropic, which is grove green and Shades on, a deep violet. The RRP is £7.99 and you can get it online, at Superdrug and Boots.
Spring nails: sorted!

Confession: as a natural long nail wearer, I always looked a bit down on falsies.
Then came Elegant Touch to blow me away with their amazing Hall of Mirrors set.

Application was a breeze. It took me a while to get used to them, but very soon they felt like my own at that length.
They feel very secure and comfortable, I can do everything – wash hair, type… I do not feel they are glued on.
Now, let’s take a minute to admire the beauty of this colour: a holographic white technicolor dreams are made of.
I am totally, madly, deeply in love.
I had it on for a whole week, no hiccups. Only thing is that you notice the growth of your natural nails and it starts looking less neat, but only noticeable on very close inspection.
Now I just want to wear them all the time. There are so many amazing designs and finishes, from your super classic mani to the out there fab fashion designs (House of Holland, I’m looking at you).
Taking them off really requires some patience. Dripping nail polish remover, poking them out… the excess glue is a pain.
As I my natural nails are destroyed from carrying boxes moving houses, I am cool with that. Otherwise, I would be quite upset.
Next time, strong base coat. If you never tried, do it now. There will be no regrets!
This fabulous shade will be in the shops very soon. Elegant Touch nails come in a variety of colours and shapes and are super practical.
The sets of 24 nails cost between £6.95 and £12.50
They were applied by the lovely Jessica at the more-than-fabulous The Apartment at LFW. Thank you so much for having me.

There was frenzy. Media outlets around the world covered the spray nail polish Nails Inc. announced, only a few days before the big launch. You could even pre-order!
Delivery was quick; I pre-ordered, the product went on sale on a Thursday and on Monday I had my delivery. It also came with a £10 off a nail service at Nails Inc shops or concessions, which I thought it was rather lovely. The can is quite small, to be honest, I had seen it at the Debenhams Christmas event but couldn’t remember it being that tiny.
I set up lots of magazine pages (thanks Glamour) onto my dinner table, as I was worried about the mess. And added my usual topcoat (I didn’t buy the Nails Inc. one) to all my clean nails.
I decided to try it on a “busy woman” scenario. It was 22:30 and I had to sort out my nails for the next morning before bed.
A couple shakes and a nervous me sprayed the silver – I went for Shoreditch Lane – on my talons. Instead of doing the “one-press-move-around-all-fingers”, I pressed individually on each nail, which I think helped minimise the mess. Overall, that was less that I expected.
Pigmentation is very good; I had to go over a couple nails twice, but in general, I was quite impressed. The shade is a lovely glittery silver with a smooth and shiny finish.
I applied my trusted Seche Vite topcoat to seal the paint and after a few minutes, although I was digging the silver dipped finger, I used a wet wipe to remove the excesses around my fingers.
Immediately after cleaning with a wet wipe
That was probably the best bit of all: how amazingly easy the excess came off. Admittedly, the final result wasn’t tidy enough for me (easily solved with a wooden stick, cotton wool and polish remover) and my hands remained glittery for a couple of washes with water and soap but really, wow.
Usually, I’d remove the excesses on the skin around the nail with a dry wooden manicure stick soon after applying the topcoat, which is what I’d do for a flawless mani. As I know most women don’t do that, I decided to skip that step for testing purposes.
After tidying up
So I fine-tuned the finish with the wooden stick, cotton wool and nail polish remover and went to bed. It dries mega quickly after applied, even before the topcoat and I went straight to bed and there were no marks. Points for that.
The whole process was very quick, possibly slightly quicker than a simple paint job (especially when drying is involved). And the result was very good.
Although Nails Inc says that using a topcoat the duration is up to four days, that for me isn’t that great. It chipped within two days and in three there was considerable peeling. I think pretty much in-line with the brands promises.
The one finger I didn’t put a topcoat on purpose, got scratched so I could see the nail by the end of the first day.
Worth remembering that my usual manicures last between 7-10 days, chip free, using the same base and topcoat I used with this one.
It might be that using the Nails Inc 2 in 1 base and topcoat, which is recommended by the brand would improve that, but, although that product is very good, it doesn’t seem to be new and exclusive for the Paint Can, and probably on the same quality to the one I used.
The verdict: great for emergencies and/or a quick change. Nails in a hurry, for a couple of days, fab for the party season. Otherwise, give me the traditional method any day.
Having said that, it was a lot of fun to apply, quite pretty and let’s not deny, revolutionary. It is after all, the first in the world and I praise Nails Inc, a brand I am a big fan of, for the innovation.
Would I buy again? Head says no, but the nail junkie in me says “let’s try the pink”.
Nails Inc Paint Can costs only £10 (plus p&P) and can be purchased on their site. I believe it is well priced and was very happy to pay that amount.
I was told it sold out three times in pre-order and is currently sold out on the site, but you can sign up to get notified when it pops back in stock.
The video was recorded especially for this post; the trial described above was my very first use of the product.
Nails Inc is stunning us all and bringing out a spray nail polish, the Nails Inc Paint Can. And it’s understandably causing a stir.
Will it soon be time to retire our nail polish brushes? Is this the future of manicures? Bear with me, I don’t have the answer quite yet…
Spray on nails will be quick, but uncontrolled. How hard it actually is to remove the excesses, how much mess it makes in the surroundings and the finish are the key to the success of this polish.
Application is simple: spray and done. Obviously there will be some mess, but according to the instructions, after applying a base coat to the nails (a must), you just spray it on and wait until it is all dry and to remove the excesses you just wash your hands with soapy water or use wet wipes. Eh?
The nail polish sticks to the base coat, or old nail polish you have on, for a quick refresh. If that really happens seamlessly, this will be amazing.
Other questions I have would be around uniformity of coat, pigmentation, need for multiple coats and durability – although they do recommend also using a topcoat.
Really, it is not often that something this revolutionary hits the nail market and I am dead excited. Plus, it would be an amazing helping hand to all of the time-strapped ladies beautifying on the go.
On top of that, it could make a great quick drying base for nail art.
Being a Nails Inc product, you can pretty much guarantee great quality.
There are two pretty colours, a silver shade called Shoreditch Lane and a metallic pink hue, Hoxton Market, both brand new.
I cannot wait to get my claws on it. It’s available from November 12th, but you can pre-order it now from the Nails Inc site. It costs a reasonable £10.
While I don’t get my mittens on it, you can see all my Nails Inc posts on the blog.
How long has it been since I posted nails on the blog, you ask? Let’s not talk about that. Let’s just say it is so long I am no longer entitled to call these type of posts nails of the week.
In fact, I’ll touch on it. Known for my ever colourful nails, I took what can be considered a sudden turn for the worst for a nail blogger: I fell in love again with plain reds and nudes.
Yes, there you have it. And is not limited to nude and red. Any simple, plain, block colour I will be all over.
So I bring you my latest in a string of nudes; the pretty essence I ❤ Trends “The Nudes” pure soul (o5).
This is a fabulous very light peach beige has very subtle pink shimmer undertones that are way too pretty. It is however, quite sheer by nature, so I needed four coats to reach a deeper colour.
As most light nail varnishes, it stains a bit on the first coat, less on the second than pretty much nothing from the third.
It dries pretty quickly (especially taking into consideration how many coats I used) and last well. You wouldn’t believe this nail polish is only £1.80. Yes, you heard it.
To finish the look off (and take the edge of the plainness), I added some cute essence nail stickers which cost only £1.30 (!!!).
These are met’ addict and it is basically a pack full (more than 65) of tiny and delicate rose gold outlines of classic shapes like hearts, rectangles, circles, chains, stars, triangles and others.
I put a double heart on my ring finger nail and a single one on my indicator.
So there you have it. Nails. breaking the dry spell. I hope to post more from time to time, but only if they have anything interesting.
And while I’m at it, I must confess I had never before tried essence products. Have to say I am rather impressed by the quality and the value for money.
Their range is superb, covering most corners of beauty and there will be popping up on the blog soon.
You can get essence in the UK at Wilko. This nail polish is part of their “The Trends” line and it is limited edition, once it’s gone, it’s truly gone.
I am a huge fan of Pam Hogg. Everything about her designs scream that rebelliouness London fashion has been historically known for in the fashion week circles.
I love my nails, but they go through phases. Sometimes they are very strong, long and indestructible. Sometimes they are quite brittle and struggling to get length.
I know the “nails of the week” title is currently a bit of a lie. They haven’t been coming weekly, but they are still coming.
Do not despair, I haven’t been walking around with appaling talons, I promise, but lately I have been going back to basics more often than not. Not sure why, but my love of plain red and nude has been reignited big time, and there isn’t anything exciting to show every single week.
Having said that, I did get quite excited about this one. First because I love blue. Second, because the enjoyed my previous metallic dot manicure. Third, there are five shades of blue.
I used, from thumb to pinkie: Collection Blue My Mind, Kiko 385, GOSH Sea Foam, Nails Inc Oxford and Topshop Boy Next Door.
Topped off with the gorgeous Nails Inc Electric Lane holographic topcoat and added lovely silver dots from Seekers of the Sun temporary metallic tattoo, which are of great quality on skin and on nails, I have to say.
